Demi Vollering Continues to Lead the Women’s Tour De France

The Tour’s 5th stage will take place on Thursday between the towns of Bastogne (Belgium) and Amneville (France).
On Wednesday, Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering (SD Worx), with a time of 7:40:10, remains the leader of the general classification after finishing second in the fourth stage of the Women’s Tour de France, which took place on Wednesday between the towns of Valkenburg and Liège.

Her compatriot Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck) claimed her first professional victory with a fantastic performance, successfully resisting the breakaway of the two favorites, Vollering and Polish rider Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon SRAM Racing). Pieterse finished as the fastest in the final sprint with a time of 3:12:28.
This second-place finish keeps Vollering at the top of the general classification, with a time of 7:40:10 after bonuses, holding a 22-second advantage over her compatriot Pieterse, while Niewiadoma is third, 34 seconds behind.
Mavi Garcia (Liv AlUla Jayco) is the best-placed Spanish rider in the general classification, two minutes and four seconds behind, after finishing the stage one minute and 21 seconds behind the race leader. Ane Santesteban (Laboral Kutxa-Fundacion Euskadi) is four minutes and 12 seconds behind the Dutch rider.
The fifth stage of the Tour de France will take place on Thursday between the towns of Bastogne (Belgium) and Amneville (France), covering a distance of 152.5 kilometers.

In 2012, she won the Liège–Bastogne–Liège Femmes, her first win in a monument classic. Two years later, she won all three Ardennes classics – the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne Feminine, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège Femmes. Before arriving at the Tour de France, Vollering won the Dutch road race championship.
